Trinity Explained
The word 'trinity" is not found in the Bible. Nevertheless, it is a word used to describe one fact the Bible teaches about God: Our God is a Trinity. This means there are three persons in one God, not three Gods. The persons are known as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit and they have all always existed as three separate persons. The person of the Father is not the same person as the Son. The person of the Son is not the same person as the Holy Spirit. The person of the Holy Spirit is not the same person as the Father. If you take away any one, there is no God. God has always been a trinity from all eternity: 'From everlasting to everlasting, Thou art God" (Ps. 90:2).
CoEternal
Within his own mysterious being God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The designations are just ways in which God is God. Within the Godhead there are three 'persons" who are neither three Gods nor three parts of God, but coequally and coeternally God.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.(presumably in the Trinitarian doctrinal development, this portion of the passage was either ignored or interpreted to relate to the prior in such a manner as to give credence to the word being separate from it’s created person yet being equal to it simultaneously)John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. Modalist Argument
The Oneness of the Godhead is the basic fundamental doctrine of the Bible. We hope you will understand there is but One God. Let us start with a few Scriptures.
Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is One Lord (Deuteronomy 6:4).Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? Ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? Yea, there is no God: I know not any..
Thus saith the Lord, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from thy womb, I am the Lord that maketh all things, that stretch forth the heavens alone, that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself (Isaiah 44:8 & 24)
I am the Lord and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me.
That they may know from the rising of the sun, and the west that there is none beside me. I am the Lord, and there is none else...(Isaiah 45:5-6)
Ye are my witnesses saith the Lord, and my servant whom i have chosen, that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he, before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.
I, even I am the Lord, and beside me there is no savior. (Isaiah 43:10-11)
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called wonderful, counselor, the mighty God, the everlasting father, the Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)
Behold a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is God with us.
(Matthew 1:23)
In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God.
And the word was made flesh and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father) full of grace and truth.
(John !:1 & 14)
And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God.
(John 17:3)
And Thomas answered and said unto him, "My Lord and my God."
(John 20:28)
For there is one God, and mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. (1st Timothy 2:5)
I and my father are one. (John 10:30)
I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.
They understood not that he spake to them of the father. (John 8:24 & 27)
For there are three that bare record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost, and these three are one. (John 5:7)
It is not just a couple of verses that declare the Oneness of the Godhead, but the whole Bible. There is but one God, not two, not three, not four, but one God and his name is Jesus.
For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily. (Colossians 2:9)This states the fullness of the Godhead bodily is in Jesus, not that Jesus is “in” (as included) the fullness of the Godhead bodily. There is a no comparison between being in something, and having something in you. The fullness of the Godhead bodily is in Jesus.
I know there are some that will say that the God of the Old Testament was Jehovah, and you are absolutely correct in saying so. But don't forget the Bible teaches the Oneness of God.
Now lets look at what Jehovah means.
Jehovah means Lord, and when the Old Testament used the title Jehovah they usually added an attribute of God. Such as Jehovah-jireh, which means the Lord will provide, and is found in Genesis 22:14.
Theophany
Greek: An appearance of a god to a human; a divine manifestation.
Shekinah
Judaism: A visible manifestation of the divine presence as described in Jewish theology.
Reasonings
In my journey down the road of research, I find it highly fascinating that the debate questioning within the two combating forms of Christian approach on redemption has not been as reconciled as it should.
In the debate between Trinity and Oneness, only one can win. There cannot be two winners. Both sides cannot hold the libram of truth to any standard while the other exists. While there are corrupters of the truth on both sides of the floor, they both hold certain truths and responsibilities to the people they serve to reconcile and promote the true gospel taught by the apostles to the church as it issued from the Holy Ghost.
Trinitarians sit in abject staunch belief that they hold the candle of truth on the matter, so much so, that theyre members do not even question the validity of the matter. They simply trust what they are told, establish it as the oldest truth and thus it is the truth for the church.
While on the Modalist side of the debate, The members contend with objections of articles that are taught by the church (trinity) and are asked to accept a different more defined explanation. And then are told as proof of theyre truth they will receive confirmation of position by being enabled with the holy-ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongue, and are shown this very confirmation, even while it is under scrutiny itself.
Lets look into some perspectives on the matters.
One of the things the church of the new testament in the first few centuries established was that members would receive the holy ghost in the same manner as the apostles and those early disciples that began the various churches. This was by baptism in the name of Jesus Christ and the reception of the holy-ghost by speaking in tounges. This practice solidified individuals into the church and the kingdom of God moreso because there was no doubt concerning who was a Christian or who wasn’t because there were always witnesses to those who received the holy-ghost in this manner as well as the existence of “cathecums” which also testify to the practice with people being set aside as those “awaiting” the spirit’s baptism and having a fervent belief in the gospel. While many were martyred during the persecutions, they still had not shown witnessing the grace of the baptism of the holy ghost by those in charge of the churches they were arrested from. Yet for their sacrifice they were deemed worthy by the church to allow them into the kingdom, during the persecution of the Christians, as it was witnessed by Roman governors who carried out the arresting of Christians and during interrogations that the Christians performed ecstatic prayings, which constituted the speaking in other tounges, or what they called “glossolalia” being greek or ecstacy. In other words, they got it before they died.
Well, soon after the first era of persecutions ended with the death of Nero, christains were allowed to worship in some peace, yet the Gnostic belief structures filtered in, due to a breakdown in the control of churches, the deaths of the apostles and the inconsistency of teachings held by those who were set in charge over congregations of churches. Thus it became essential to combat the false teachings or the “false prophets”, who fed the churches on confusion and incorrect approaches towards the gospel. It became very important to solidify a consistant truth one that united the various inconsistencies and omitted any variations of truth that did not correspond.
This was performed during the fist council of Nicea. Where in the church formulated a distinct belief structure, one that was agreed upon as the only absolute truth. It would encompass and account for each existing growth of the church that had been adopted as truth but was gnostically rooted. Certain elements of Nestorianism, Neoplatonsim and other beliefs would be considered, and any statements of faith by the earlier closest disciples of the apostles. St. Augustine’s writings arose as of great importance and after much debate, it was considered that his writing on his journey to martyrdom were to be introduced as the basis of doctrinal belief. This is the adoption of the threefold manifestations of God in the forms of the father, the son and the holy spirit.
It is important to note that while Augustine made mention of the idea, he did not believe in a threefold manifestation of the godhead, but rather that in three works of God we see him as father Son and Holy spirit.
This is a consistant belief structure established by Sabellious who poured over the early teachings of the apostles and brought his belief to the council of chaldeans upon which he was throughouly rebuked.
Ever since the concept of the threefold deities has been accepted, worldwide it is the final word of gospel. Yet very few question it thoroughly and no one can completely understand it. It is said to be a mystery acceptable by the faithful. And they recount the miracles of god on behalf of people and the charity of the converts and abject historical content of their belief structure as proof of their doctrinal stance. You must have faith that what is believed is truth, without affirmative confirmation by god, and to trust in the faith of those given charge over your teaching.
The Modalist
The modalist have a separate concept of approach to salvation and the doctrinal introduction of the apostles. They literally ignore for the most part the teachings of disciples of the apostles and start from there and work themselves back in time to develop the concept of their doctrine, while Trinitarians begin at the New Testament, and work forwards. Most Trinitarians have “respect” for the Old Testament, but few base their doctrinal belief on it, holding more to the understanding that the old testament was for Jewish redemption while the new testament is for gentiles. Modalist’s tend to find the old testament confirmations in the practices of the new testament writings and see it as more valid than Trinitarian churches. This is not to say that Trinitarian churches ignore the old testament, but rather if a question were to arise that seemed in contradiction between the two they would err on the side of the new testament due to the historical context of theyre belief in the establishment of the new for gentiles rather than the old.
I have read statements that define modalist teaching as being incorrect, and youthful exhuberance in regards to the established doctrinal belief of trinity. I have not found this to be so. In fact quite the opposite is in place. While the trinity churches find solace in historical content, the modalist churches find refuge in ancient concepts. They are more akin to older doctrinal beliefs than the other.
For example, most modalist churches belief in the practice of speaking in tounges. While some Trinitarian churches are aware of the practice, they don’t make it a confirmation of salvation, but rather that salvation is given freely by faith in the belief in Jesus Christ.
There are no conditions to be met by the believer save that they believe. While modalist churches believe that a sacrifice of oneself is made when presenting oneself to God as it always was, there is more consistency in Modalist belief structures in regards to the old testament than there are with Trinitarian churches. Many modalist churches have a tendancy to over indulge in sober modesty of life choices, thus creating a perception of youthful exhuberance that in contrary to the doctrinal beliefs established within the churches of modalist congregants. The doctrine of most modalist consists of the belief that Oneness of god in all functions of work are consistant and true. That god operated as father, son and holy spirit in the functions of work associated with each operation.
That as father he created the Flesh to house his word, or spirit, that as Son, the birth flesh of man walked amongst the existing sons of god that had not the spirit of God within, and was shone approved of the father by his work leading man toward the ability of redemption if that man so chooses and as holy spirit being the redemptive factor in rconciliation of the sons of man to God.
Modalist belive that the “Work” of god is more important than the identity and station of the persona’s witnessed of god. Such as classifying the manifestations of god as one thing or another to define the doctrinal beliefs of the church.
It is my surmation that this is the crux of dissention amongst Modalist and Trinitarians, it is the classification of the manifestations of God. Since Jesus plainly stated that He was not acting as god, yet he was in complete obedience to the father, is Jesus an historic figure or God incarnate or something not all together God, yet not all together Man?
